Q: Why is rainwater better than tap water for plants?
A: The quality of rainwater is unsurpassed when it comes to watering plants. Rainwater is free from salts and pollutants and, best of all, contains no chlorine, a chemical added to tap drinking water which inhibits plant growth. The natural temperature of rainwater does not shock plants with cold the way tap water can. And it’s FREE!
Q: Can I install Rainsmart anywhere in the rainwater downpipe?
A: It must be installed at any height in the downpipe which is above the inlet height to the water butt or container as the flow of water is gravity fed.
Q: Can I position my water butt anywhere or does it have to be next to the downpipe and close to the wall?
A: Because Rainsmart enables standard UK hosepipe adaptor fittings to its outlet tube, you have the freedom to locate your water butt to suit your particular requirements, only limited by the length of your hose. Therefore, it’s not necessary to locate your water butt next to the downpipe or wall, unless it’s your choice to do so.
Q: Is Rainsmart weatherproof?
A: Yes. Rainsmart is produced using materials to withstand all known extremes in weather conditions and although comes with a 5 Year Guarantee, will probably last a lifetime.
Q: What happens if leaves or mud clog inside Rainsmart and impairs use?
A: When Rainsmart is adjusted manually into its OFF position, most foreign matter inside will fall to drainage and therefore it’s largely self-cleaning. In the case of any stubborn resistance, you can simply slide Rainsmart off the downpipe, rinse, clean and replace in a couple of minutes. It’s as easy as that!
Q: Will my water butt overflow when full?
A: No. Rainsmart is self regulating and prevents any overflow at the water butt.
Q: When my water butts are full, can I disconnect Rainsmart?
A: Yes. You can disconnect the hosepipes to stow neatly and by adjusting Rainsmart to its OFF position, rain will fall normally to drainage when not in use.
Q: What gap is needed between the wall and the downpipe?
A: The 1.5 inch standard distance allows Rainsmart to be easily fixed, so it’s important you buy the two standard pipe brackets which provide this gap. (Most DIY stores or builders merchants sell these.)
Q: Will it fit SQUARE down pipes.
A: Not this size. The size SPECIFIED HERE is for British standard round downpipes. Being a flexible sleeve, it will fit any shape downpipe but square downpipes require a larger sleeve size (other dimensions the same).
